Great game for WiiJanuary 3, 2009 neversummer(New Hampshire, USA) Overall this is one of the best games for Wii in my opinion. If you've ever played the classic Mario Kart for N64 you'll most likely enjoy this version too. The racing maps are well designed and there's plenty of variety throughout. The Wii wheel works great as a controller but you don't need it to play as long as you have a Wii remote. It's really fun to play alone but it's great to have a few people play with you in races. My only complaint regards the VS "battle" mode that allows you to battle other players. I think this part of the game was changed for the worse since the N64 version, it's still fun but there aren't enough options and there's a time limit that makes it feel more like a "minigame" than an important multiplayer addition. Yet overall, improved graphics, the Wii wheel, and a classic but revamped take on Nintendo's finest characters and themes make this game a must have for Wii owners.
Possibly the Best Family Video Game of all time!January 2, 2009 David S. Reid(PA) This game is fun for all right out of the box. In about 2 or 3 races, you get the control of the car down and off you go! It is fun for all, even our 6 year olds can play this and win races, but it is also still challenging for all ages.
This is a great title and highly recommended for any family looking for a game to play together.
Carefree fun! An average player's account...January 2, 2009 Brooke E. Templeton I was wary of trying this game out for a while, due to the many disappointed reviews I read here. After all, who could want to experience the magic of getting continually blasted by the Blue Shell of Doom, causing long lines of losses? But the Wii's game entourage is limited, and I still wanted to build up a decent library... and I'd always thought Mario Kart games were pretty neat. So I asked for it for Christmas... and I've been having a GRAND time with it since.
The chaos from the frequent item bombardment is immense at times, but for me it kept the races from growing too boring. The course designs are elaborate and fun to look at as you whip around anticipating your next power slide. Now, I've only played one 150cc Grand Prix so far, but I've found that in general it's the obstacles you have to watch out for more than anything if you're aiming to win. Look for the closest corner cuts, check out for any hidden passageways, etc. Heck, I follow the time trial ghosts to see which routes they take... the Coconut Mall one was surprising, as I'd never even known that a certain shortcut she took even existed up until then. But I'm getting off topic.
The courses all come from several past Mario Kart games, plus a few designed especially for this one. It's colorful. Unlocking something is like getting a surprise present, especially with the characters. Eventually you will unlock yourself! Well, that is if you made your Mii look like you. Haha! The bikes ands karts are all noticeably different in how they perform, and you'll be kept busy wondering which one will work the best for what you want. (I favor Rosalina on the Wario Bike myself.)
Now for the two things that I don't care for much... I mentioned earlier that the item chaos keeps things from getting too boring. Well, that's still true, but the constant recovering you'll be doing gets very tiresome after a while. "I just want to keep moving, is that too much to ask?" one will say. Also, the character's vocalizations could have used more variety. It was so scary hearing my Mii shout, "Wahay!" really loud every few seconds that eventually I had to stop using her, because I couldn't take it anymore.

great version of a classic gameJanuary 2, 2009 Bob Hutchins(Tampa, FL) Have loved this game since Super Nintendo. In my opinion. this is the best version. Love that you can get online and play people from around the world. The tracks are great and the gameplay is the best yet.
Love that you can do tournaments with special tracks. These happen every couple of weeks and each one is different, so you'll never get tired of playing the same game over and over again.
Outrageous good fun!January 2, 2009 Emerald Coast There was a (5) year old on my Christmas list who wanted this badly. I was not sure if this game was age appropriate, but bought it knowing that there were (2) teenagers that would use it if not.
I need not have worried. I have been to his home (3) times since Christmas, and someone is always playing it. They have (2)Wii consoles, and this seems to be THE "swipe amd run" game of the year.
The graphics are very good, and the game play is a hoot! The parents and house guests were playing it as well. Makes me want to get a Wii.
